PAGO DE LARRAINZAR
Located in Ayegui, Navarra, Pago de Larrainzar is a family-run estate steeped in history, where modern winemaking and sustainable viticulture come together in a unique terroir. Owned by the Larrainzar family for over 160 years, the property borders the Irache Monastery on the Camino de Santiago and spans a single 17-hectare vineyard that produces all of the winery’s wines.
Pago de Larrainzar is much more than a winery—it is a legacy of five generations. Originally planted in 1891, the vineyard once earned gold at the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition. Today, siblings Miguel and Irene Canalejo continue this legacy, producing elegant and expressive wines exclusively from estate-grown grapes.
The vineyard is managed parcel by parcel, using a precision viticulture model. Each block is differentiated by clone, rootstock, slope, and exposure, and is harvested by hand in 15 kg boxes. The grapes are carefully sorted in the vineyard and again at the winery, ensuring exceptional quality.
Fermentations are done separately by plot and variety. French oak barrels from diverse coopers, toasts, and sizes are used to develop complexity and identity. Every blend is crafted from numerous microvinifications, resulting in wines with depth and personality. Even the rosé is barrel-aged—an example of the estate’s commitment to quality and detail.
Pago de Larrainzar collaborates with renowned consultant Ignacio de Miguel, working alongside estate winemaker Miguel Canalejo.
