Navarra is the cradle of native varietal Garnacha and is the Spanish market leader of Rose Wines.
The wines – white, rosé and red - are recognized for their freshness and authenticity thanks its unique location in Northern Spain and prides itself on sustainability and renewable energy initiatives.
Winemaking dates back to Roman times and the expansion of vineyards has taken place over centuries to provide wine for the multitude of churches along the Caminio de Santiago (The Way of St. James).
Today, the vineyards can be found from the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains to the Ebro River and Europe’s largest desert Las Bardenas.
The region is comprised of 5 sub-zones with distinct terroirs influenced by three climates - Atlantic – Continental – Mediterranean – resulting in a range of wine styles.

The D.O. Navarra is a reference point for innovation – results of the R&D team’s research at EVENA has recovered native varietals dating back centuries and preservation of genetic material as well as clone research to identify which ones will adapt best to climate change over the next decades.

Types of Wines in Navarra and Their Production
Nestled in the north of Spain, the Navarra Denomination of Origin is a renowned wine-producing region celebrated for its exceptional diversity and quality. Blessed with a variety of climates and soils, Navarra has mastered the art of creating wines that harmonize tradition with innovation. Navarra’s winemaking heritage is further enriched by its five unique subzones, each contributing distinct characteristics to its wines. Rosé Wines
Navarra is famous for its rosé wines, mainly made with Garnacha using the bleeding method:

Red grapes macerate briefly with the skins to extract color and aromas.

The must is then separated and fermented without the skins, resulting in fresh, fruity, and dry wines with notes of strawberry and raspberry.
Red Wines
Made with varieties such as Tempranillo, Garnacha, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon:

Fermented with skins to extract color and tannins.

There are young wines and others aged in barrels, such as Crianza, Reserva, and Gran Reserva.

They are balanced, with good acidity and medium body.
White Wines

Subzones of D.O. Navarra
The D.O. Navarra is divided into five subzones, each with its own distinct characteristics:
